What Is VolunTourism? According to Voluntourism.org it is “the conscious, seamlessly integrated combination of voluntary service to a destination and the best, traditional elements of travel — arts, culture, geography, history and recreation — in that destination.” They also believe that the increase in interest in this fascinating area of travel is due to factors such as; development of global communications, increased wealth and discretionary time, increases in philanthropy and individual social responsibility, and perhaps increased religious and spiritual awareness.

This site intends to educate, empower and engage the traveler as well as the providers. Voluntourism.org provides documentation on voluntourism from many notable professors and serves as the facilitator to align companies in the business of tourism with the non-profits that seek assistance.

The site focuses heavily on determining the strengths and desires of the traveler to ensure they are searching for an experience that will suit them. They even provide a survey to assist the traveler in assessing their interests and possible next steps. Their other resources include a weekly review, blog, various webcasts and a newsletter.
