No longer a tourist but rather an inhabitant!
Steve Rosenthal and Bela Singh launched Project India in Delhi, India in 1997. Project India’s focus is meaningful, sustainable community development – locally designed and driven – that provides a safe and comfortable environment for short-term volunteers. This unique approach to volunteerism found its niche, was renamed Cross-Cultural Solutions, and soon a second program followed in Ghana and a third in Peru.
Cross-Cultural Solutions operates volunteer programs around the world in partnership with sustainable community initiatives. Volunteers work side-by-side sharing perspectives and fostering cultural understanding. To date, over 25,000 volunteers have participated in CCS programs around the world benefiting local communities through their efforts, and giving volunteers a new perspective of the world.
Programs include a balance of volunteer work, cultural activities and free time which is divided into four categories. Volunteer Abroad is the flagship program that features over 20 program sites. Intern Abroad is for students or recent graduates interested in having an international internship or earning academic credit. Insight Abroad is for people who want to experience international volunteering for one week, and Teen Volunteer Abroad is for teens, aged 15-17, who can travel independently or in a group. CCS in-country staff serves as chaperons.
