Sustainability embodies two fundamentals: borrow from the Earth and preserve it for future generations. We know natural, organic, plant-based fabrics instead of oil-based synthetic ones are better for the environment and for us. Turning natural fabrics into a finished product ethically is important; how crops are grown, harvested, and processed. And so, more and more designers and clothing companies are concerned with fair trade and labor practices, as well as using organic raw materials for their designs. Their end goal is to offer consumers environmentally healthy clothing choices for their families without sacrificing fashion.

Here are some of our previously reviewed favorites:

We love the concept of upcycled clothes for kids, like bravaboutique’s Glad Heart clothing and accessories. They upcycle t-shirts wasting away in closets and bottom drawers into adorable dresses for girls. You’ll find bravaboutique on Etsy, the online handmade crafters marketplace. Another great upcycled resource with a focus on green design specifically targeted at babies, toddlers and kids, Inhabitots is a supplement to the wider focus of Inhabitat.com. Their toys are a particular favorite!

Other favorites are: Prancing Leopard Kids for adorable t-shirts; for beyond adorable high-end knitwear for babies ages 0-6, checkout inKlein Design Baby Collection. Another organic ultra-luxe resource is Aravore. A great Australian kid’s resource is PetitEcoKIDS which has the latest in good quality organic fashion. There are a ton of resources online for baby clothes, toys, nappies, and more, but this a good place to start, Natural Collection.

We applaud those designers and manufacturers of clothing for kids who focus on sustainability for the next generation. Let us know about the ones you favor, tell us why so we can share with our readers.
