Dreams really can come true!
Founded in 2003 by David and Christine Ayers and Christine’s brother Robert Hardy, the German-Ale House microbrewery, Glacier Brewing Company, is located in northwest Montana in Polson on the southern end of Flathead Lake. The Hardy’s journey began with a daydream about operating a microbrewery in West Glacier with products sold throughout Glacier National Park. The west entrance to Glacier National Park has great summer traffic but not many hardy souls in winter; thus, Polson was the site chosen instead. Since then, this small microbrewery has seen their products popping up for sale in Glacier National Park at the West Glacier Merc and Eddie’s Gifts and on the menu at Eddie’s Café, as well. Through energy, hard work, and persistence their daydream became reality!
Visit the expanded taproom and relax in the beer garden where you will always find seven of their handcrafted beers and two sodas available as well as seasonal selections. Baby boomers can appreciate the fact that GBC beers and sodas are unpasteurized and micro-filtered. Sample the beers by the 2 oz. glass for free until you find the one that is right for you. Perhaps it is the award winning Golden Grizzly Ale that is lightly bodied, moderately hopped and brewed in the style of a German Kolsch. Another award-winner is the dark Slurry Bomber Stout featuring a distinct roasted-chocolate and creamy flavor –yummy! The Port Polson Pilsner is brewed in the widely popular style of an American Pilsner, lightly bodied and pale. Baby boomers will also love GBC’s newest Seasonal/Specialty One Barrel Batch of unusual beers which are created in very small batches of 1-2 kegs each. They are poured by the pint in the tasting room and once the keg is empty, well that’s that for that batch! Their goal is to always have something new and different on tap for you to try each time you visit. Beer-to-go is available as well.
Glacier Root Beer is handcrafted and brewed with authentic roots and bark, and Polson Pepper Soda, a handcrafted cherry crème soda, are both for the younger crowd. Next time you’re in Polson stop by and pay them a visit.
