Eco-friendly indulgence!

The highly acclaimed and award winning Jean-Michel Cousteau Fiji Island Resort was born out of passion for the Fijian people, their culture, and traditions. The 17 acre luxury resort resides south of the equator on the site of a former coconut plantation on the second largest island in Fiji, Vanua Levu. This #1 eco-friendly resort strives to maintain nature’s perfect balance by respecting and participating in the living vitality of our environment, taking as little as possible and giving back as much as they can. They achieve this through eco-sensitive activities, education, and practice. Jean-Michel Cousteau Fiji Islands Resort is a partner of The Good Night Foundation.

Eco-minded baby boomers can experience the exceptional range of cultural, educational, environmental and recreational activities available. Land activities include rain forest hikes to waterfalls and Niumaia’s Medicinal Plant Walk, where the resident marine biologist talks about the flora, fauna, and sea life along the way. Water activities include snorkeling the local clam project, scuba diving, Hobie Cat sailing, and fishing around Savasavu. Bring your catch back to the chef to prepare for dinner for the ultimate in freshness! (We even enjoyed sashimi from one of our catches on departure day.) Experience the local culture through Fijian music and kava ceremonies – I can still feel the numb lip sensation!

Watch slide shows and videos on the importance of preserving Fiji’s environment, especially its native sea life, and narrated by the on-site Naturalist/ Marine Biologist. Indulge your senses at The Resort Spa with a Fijian massage. The traditional Bobo Massage has been passed down through generations and reflects centuries of Fijian beliefs. Or savor the South Pacific with a Coconut and Pineapple Paradise massage.

When we visited, we were taken by the innate hospitality of all of the employees; they really cared about our relaxation, pampering, and even our education of their sustainable endeavors. The spa is NOT to be missed.

Award-winning meals of contemporary Fijian, South Pacific, and International cuisine are complemented by exceptional fine wines. At Pier’s End, enjoy romantic candlelit dinners surrounded by the waters of the Koro Sea. (And a midnight dip right there is not a bad idea either! – once the staff has gone). Family options include a BBQ at the Bula Club. Enjoy a Lovo, the traditional Fijian feast, and a Mongolian barbecue/stir-fry, as well. At day’s end, retire to one of 25 spacious bures built from local timbers. Thatched bungalows provide garden or ocean views and feature a king size bed, rattan furnishings, mini-bar, and private deck. The Villa was voted 2007 Fiji’s Leading Suite!

We can’t wait to return!
