Founded in 1995 by owners Tim O’Leary and wife Suzy Rizza, Kettlehouse started as a brew on premise (BOP) – a place where customers could come and brew their own beer – and has since evolved into a sustainable microbrewery and neighborhood taproom. O’Leary, a third generation Montanan  with a B.S. in physics from Montana State University, was living in Colorado in 1991 working for NOAA, mountain biking, skiing and looking for a way to move back to Montana. On a bike ride, he noticed a new BOP and since he had dabbled in home-brewing for a few years, the seed for Kettlehouse was sown. Entrepreneurial spirited O’Leary and Rizza were on their way to brewing the last best beer in Montana, the “Last Best Place.” And, their brewmaster, Colleen Bitter, is Montana’s only female brewer among a handful nationwide!

Innovative Kettlehouse is the first Montana brewery to put beer in a can. Beers are produced and packaged in environmentally sensitive ways including a food-grade lining, which protects the beer flavor in cans made with opaque, outdoor friendly, easily-transportable recycled aluminum. Baby boomer microbrew lovers can enjoy handcrafted high-quality beer while viewing the scenic mountain and river landscapes Missoula is blessed to have.

Take your taste buds on a journey with the gold medal award winner Cold Smoke® Scotch Ale formulated with Montana grown 2-row barley, northwest Goldings hops and a hint of roasted barley to give a slight coffee-like smoky finish to this smooth hearty ale. Kettlehouse partnered with Missoula’s Big Dipper to make Cold Smoke ice cream which was featured on the Today Show awhile back and is a huge summertime favorite!  Hop-headed boomer mouths will enjoy a cascade of hoppiness with another gold medal winner, the solid body Double Haul® IPA featuring Cascade hops. A local favorite is the Eddy Out® Pale Ale. This classic American Pale Ale’s copper color comes from caramelized malt. Seasonals include the caution recommended malty brew Discombobulator Doppelbock and the full flavored Zula Stout with hints of coffee and chocolate.  Stop by to quench your thirst on Wednesday nights for the highly popular Community Unite Program featuring a different community group each week and where 50 cents from every pint sold goes back to the community group of the evening.
