Sustainable life – sustainable style!
Headquartered in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains in Florence, Alabama is community-based Alabama Chanin, a lifestyle company that crafts luxurious one-of-a-kind hand-made limited-edition sustainable fashions and home products using a combination of new, organic, and recycled materials. Owner and designer Natalie “Alabama” Chanin combines old-world craft with cutting-edge style and her focus is slow design and sustainability. Designs are constructed using quilting and stitching techniques from the rural south and by talented artisans who live and work in communities in and around Florence where Natalie grew up. Natalie is a former filmmaker, has a degree in environmental design from North Carolina State University, and travels the world lecturing on slow design, sustainability, and cultural preservation.
Baby boomers will appreciate the fact that Natalie taps underused resources to create this outstanding line of cutting-edge American couture. In the process she gives much needed jobs to locals and which helps in revitalizing the local community. Artisans gather together in circles reminiscent of the age old tradition of quilting to stitch, embroider, and bead luxurious and magnificent one-of-a-kind designs which include Custom Couture. Create your own design to fit your unique personal style and it will be hand-made exactly to your chosen color, size, length needed, sleeve choice, and embellishment specifications. It doesn’t get any better than this!
