We have had some very interesting ideas about sustainable gift giving since Black Friday. We appreciated the fun ideas that we were able to retweet and “like” on Facebook. Once you start thinking about local businesses and the services they offer, as well as things that make all of our lives easier and more enjoyable – the sky is the limit.

We heard about certificates to local thrift shops, facials, reflexology certificates, personalized ornaments made from thrift store finds, IMAX annual passes for the entire family, donations in honor of others (NPR, Foodbanks, health foundations…etc). We heard that many of you supported local craft fairs where artists, and in some cases your neighbors, made great gifts.

Our winner took the approach of giving the gift of adventure. Here is her entry:

“I gave my brother the gift of adventure with a ski lesson from The Disabled Sports Program Center at Alpine Meadows Ski Area.  He has not skied or snowboarded for years due to his illness of Ataxia.  He is bound to either a walker or wheelchair for all everyday activities due to this illness.  He truly enjoyed getting out and skiing with his wife and son!  And I truly enjoyed seeing him back on the slopes as well!   I’m thinking this may be his Christmas gift again this year!

We are please to award the $100 Xperience Days certificate to M. Jones of Truckee, CA!…and we hope she finds a fun adventure to give or use herself this holiday season.

*a special thanks to Xperience Days for sponsoring this contest!
